Spring 2026 Edition – “Fresh Season, Fresh News!”
Hello, Nerstrand neighbors!
Spring has officially arrived (even if winter tried to sneak in a few last appearances), and with it comes some exciting updates, opportunities, and ways to get involved in our wonderful community.
The Park Is Ready!
Great news — our city park is now ready and accepting reservations! Whether you’re planning a family gathering, birthday party, or just looking for a sunny place to relax, we’re excited to see it being enjoyed.
City Council Opening
A big thank you to John Harris for his service to Nerstrand as he steps down from his council position. We now have an open council seat — if you’ve ever thought about getting involved, this is your moment! High priority to fill this seat. Please reach out as soon as possible for details. Just FYI Council has one regular meeting. One work session. Typically, on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays.
Upcoming Election News
We are making a final call for Election Judges! This is a paid opportunity and a great way to serve your community.
This year, Nerstrand residents will vote for: Mayor and two city council seats. Are you interested in filing for candidacy? Email the clerks if interested. Serving your community is a meaningful way to help shape the future of our small town.
Volunteer Opportunity – Let’s Paint!
Nerstrand has been awarded a Paint Reimbursement Grant through the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation. We’ll be repainting the interior of City Hall, and we’re looking for volunteers willing to lend a hand (and maybe a paintbrush or two). It’s a great way to leave your mark on the community — literally!
Chickens & Gardens – Oh My!
A friendly reminder for residents: If you’re interested in keeping chickens, we do have a chicken application available (cost $10 annually).
Our community garden is now taking reservations (cost $10 per plot). Whether you’re raising eggs or growing tomatoes, we love seeing residents embrace a little homesteading spirit!
Get Involved – Join a Committee
Looking to make a difference? Consider joining one of our committees: Zoning, Ordinance, and Cemetery. They’re always looking for fresh ideas and community input to help guide our city forward.
Annual Water Report Available
Our Consumer Confidence Report is available at City Hall or available on the City Website: www.nerstrand.org. Questions? Our Public Works team — Steve and Jacob — are happy to help.
Fun Nerstrand Fact!
Did you know Nerstrand is home to Nerstrand Big Woods State Park, one of the last remaining “Big Woods” forests in Minnesota?
It’s a rare piece of history right in our backyard — and a perfect place to stretch your legs this spring!
Thank You, Nerstrand
Thank you for helping keep our community strong, welcoming, and just the right amount of quirky. Whether you’re volunteering, serving, gardening, or just waving to a neighbor — it all matters.
If you have any questions, comments, or are interested in any of the opportunities listed above, please reach out to the City Clerks at: cityclerknerstrand@gmail.com.
With appreciation,
City of Nerstrand
