Thank you for showing interest and applying for Nerstrand Fire & Rescue. We feel it is important that you, and your family, understand the commitment of time that will be required from you. The first year will likely be the busiest as you complete required education. Applications are available at City Hall, emailing nerstrandfire@gmail.com, or stopping at a meeting.
Initial Training Requirements
Nerstrand Fire & Rescue will provide the following training.
Fire Training
Fire Training takes about five months to complete. Class is typically 2 nights a week and occasionally on Saturdays. Coursework may be hybrid learning and will require homework. Training location may vary depending on class availability.
Emergency Medical Responder
EMR training takes about two months to complete. Class is typically 2 nights a week and occasionally on Saturdays. Coursework may be hybrid learning and will require homework. Training location may vary depending on class availability.
Meetings
Business meetings are the first Wednesday of the month. Meetings start at 7:00 PM and last about 2 hours. Equipment checks are also performed at this meeting.
First Responder meetings are the second Wednesday of the month. Meetings start at 6:30 PM and consist of training and/or equipment checks.
Fire Training meetings are on the third Wednesday of the month. Meetings start at 7:00 PM Meeting Dates, topics, and times are subject to change.
Call Requirement
Nerstrand Fire & Rescue does not have a minimum call requirement. We respond to an average of 60 Fire and Rescue calls a year.
Compensation
Members are paid $10 per hour while attending Fire or Rescue Calls with a minimum of 2 hours. Members are paid $20 per meeting attended.
